Stedelijk Museum Update

A while back we wrote about the new addition currently under construction at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam designed by Benthem Crouwel Architects. Nicknamed “The Bathtub” for it’s seamless, sleek white fiberglass facade that does tend to resemble the form of a bathtub from certain angles… It is now nearing completion, with a grand opening date of September 23. The exterior looks mostly finished, these photos by Ernst van Deursen show the stark contrast between the original building- an 1895 brick structure that references 15th century Dutch Renaissance architecture, and the new building- clad in FRP and referencing something more akin to a spaceship. Read more about the opening day here.
